Art for Arts’ Sake

Art for Arts’ Sake opens the art season in New Orleans each fall. In 2010, it takes place from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday, October 2, throughout the city of New Orleans. While galleries everywhere in New Orleans are participating, you’ll find the bulk of them on Julia Street – in the historic Warehouse Arts District – and along the six miles of Magazine Street. Art galleries and shops will have extended hours, and many will have musicians and cash bars in front of their doors. The atmosphere during Art for Arts’ Sake is festive, and the festivity is contagious. Book a room in your favorite bed and breakfast New Orleans now!

October 2, 2010, marks the opening of the fall art season in New Orleans.

The heart of the Warehouse Arts District is Julia Street between Loyola Avenue and the New Orleans Convention Center. View it as a large, open-air museum, with each gallery showcasing a few outstanding painters, sculptors, or photographers – some of the finest artists in New Orleans will be represented. A large block party between the 300 and 600 blocks will be a good place to find refreshments between 6pm and 9pm. Remember to poke your head down side streets, where a number of galleries and shops are located.

Magazine Street stretches six miles through the heart of New Orleans. You’ll find everything here: art galleries, boutiques, eclectic shops, antiques, and of course, food. Travel along Magazine Street by bike, if you like, or walk it; buses run up and down the street on a regular basis, helping transport serious shoppers laden with their purchases.

All this art appreciation, browsing and shopping is bound to create an appetite. Be aware that many restaurants in the vicinity will fill early. If you have your heart set on dining in a particular place, make a reservation. If you aren’t sure where you want to eat, you may always ask the innkeeper of your bed and breakfast New Orleans for recommendations.
