2011 Spring Festivals in New Orleans

- Cedric Watson -

See Cedric Watson at the Bayoo Boogaloo in New Orleans, May 20-21, 2011.

Several festivals are on the horizon in New Orleans. An incredible variety of musicians will take the stage during the Jazz and Heritage Festival, April 29 – May 8, 2011 and the Mid-City Bayoo Boogaloo, May 20-21, 2011. If the only excuse you need to travel is the promise of good music, then pack your bags and book a room in your favorite New Orleans Bed and Breakfast.

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival brings some truly remarkable names to the city. Where else can you see a line-up that includes Sonny Rollins, Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, Mystikal, Cyndi Lauper, Allen Toussaint, The Decemberists, Gregg Allman Blues Band, and Irma Thomas? The mind positively reels.

12 stages filled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily ensure endless entertainment. Throw in daily parades (this is New Orleans, after all), and a huge selection of food booths, and there it is – the 2011 Jazz and Heritage Festival. See the festival website for additional details.

Slightly less ambitious, the Mid-City Bayoo Boogaloo lasts only 2 days and features only three stages. Smaller in scale, it is also more intimate in feeling. Still, the Bayoo Boogaloo presents an impressive variety of performers. Look for Cedric Watson, Beth Patterson, and New Orleans Ladies of Jazz. Enjoy the Johnny Dilks Band and Donald Harrison and the Congo Nation. A complete line-up is available at Bayoo Boogaloo.

Food at Bayoo Boogaloo includes everything from crepes to pulled pork po’boys, chargrilled oysters to pizza. Come with an appetite, and eat with abandon – dancing requires a great deal of energy.

Your New Orleans Bed and Breakfast will be a haven during these music festivals, fun as they are. It’s nice to have a peaceful retreat from crowds and noise. Some New Orleans B&Bs are within walking distance to the Jefferson Davis Parkway and the Fair Grounds, making travel to and from the festivals a cinch.
