A New Orleans New Year’s Eve 2013

A New Orleans New Year's Eve 2013

A New Orleans New Year’s – is there any other city more fit for ringing in the new year? Heck, our city shares its first name with the holiday – could it be any more fitting?

Should you be here, you may want to plan ahead and get a little rest during the day before the holiday because, once it starts – well, let’s just say that New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day have a way of blending seamlessly together here …

Local restaurants will be serving up Reveillon dinners and the bars will be prepared with their New Year’s Eve bells set to ring over the excited hubbub of the celebrating crowds.

Jackson Square, in the French Quarter, is where you will want to be if you like being in the thick of it. The Decatur Street celebration will be in full swing there well before the fleur-de-lis descends the 25 foot pole atop Jax Brewery.

New Orleans New Year's Eve FireworksThen the fireworks show – illuminating the sky with splashes of multi-colored light and the boom-crackle – all choreographed to some, good, soulful New Orleans music as well as a few fight songs from the Sugar Bowl teams in town. A fireworks display so spectacular it is simulcast in more than 38 states across the union.

Now, if you’re not careful you might think of this time – the signal that 2013 has passed into 2014 – as the culmination of the celebration but, folks, it’s really just the *starting* bell. Now what? Head on over to Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street or, heck, you’re in the French Quarter already! Find yourself a bar with your kind of music bleeding out of it or order up a drink and see where your feet take you. Yes, you can take your drink with you, here. Told you this city was *made* for New Year’s Eve.
