New Orleans Rock n’ Roll Marathon

February 8th, 2011 by bbnola

Marathon runners are a dedicated bunch. They train for months in order to be able to run 26 miles with with thousands of other people. Marathoners are rewarded by the great sense of accomplishment that comes from setting their hearts and minds on a goal and achieving it. Thousands of marathons runners are due to arrive in New Orleans this weekend, for the February 13, 2011 New Orleans Rock n’ Roll Marathon. Many of them will stay in New Orleans Bed and Breakfasts.

Yet there is one other perk: travel. Many marathon runners set their sights on races located all over the world. If you’re a runner, to run along the Champs Elysees and through the Place de la Concorde in Paris with thousands of your running peers is thrilling. There are marathons in the Polar Circle, marathons along the Great Wall of China, and marathons in Petra, an ancient city carved into the sandstone mountains of Jordan.

The New Orleans Marathon may not be quite as awe-inspiring as a run on the Great Wall of China, but it is certainly a beautiful course and a fun race. Runners will race through the Lower and Upper Garden Districts, past antique shops and lovely old mansions; they’ll run around Audubon Park and down the historic St. Charles Avenue; they’ll run beside Lake Pontchartrain before heading back to the finish line at City Park.

After the race, they’ll party. In the true spirit of the city, musicians stand on street corners and serenade the runners as they past. Bowling for Soup will play at City Park, along with as yet to be announced Opening and Closing Acts. Dancing in the park, great food and drinks make the post-marathon party in New Orleans unforgettable.

New Orleans Bed and Breakfasts welcome marathon runners to their hometown. Bed and Breakfasts New Orleans are a wonderful lodging choice for runners and spectators alike. You’ll want hearty breakfasts while in town, sinfully comfortable beds, and, ideally, a Jacuzzi. You’ll also want to be able to stretch out in common areas and parlors after the race, when you’re too tired to sightsee but too restless to stay in your room.

Course for the New Orleans Marathon.
