A New Orleans New Year's Eve 2013

A New Orleans New Year’s – is there any other city more fit for ringing in the new year? Heck, our city shares its first name with the holiday – could it be any more fitting?

New Orleans on New Years is the Place to be!

December 18th, 2012 by insideout

If you live in Vermont, you may not know –

New Orleans is the ultimate New Year’s Eve destination! For everyone and anyone below the Mason-Dixon, New Orleans is the best city to ring in the New Year! Why be somewhere frigid and cold where the fun ends at midnight, maybe 2 a.m. if you’re lucky? Things are a little different here in New Orleans – Midnight on New Year’s Eve is just the beginning of an exciting night!

Jackson Square is the premiere public venue for New Years fun and excitement. Live entertainment starts several hours before midnight and continues until the dropping of the Gumbo Pot from the roof of Jax Brewery. Hey, it’s only five stories up, but who’s counting?

Immediately following the gumbo pot drop is a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display launched from twin barges on the Mississippi. Our pyrotechnic extravaganza is consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation.

After Jackson Square festivities and fireworks, the party is far from over!

New Orleans for New Year's Eve 2012

New Year’s Eve in New Orleans 2010 at the Blue Nile on Frenchman Street. We were there to see trumpeter Kermit Ruffins. My head is in the crescent moon of the sign. What a night!

Time to head over to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street or Mid-City for more celebrating. Find a fun bar or music club alive with New Orleans jazz or brass music. Order your favorite drink and Laissez les bons temps rouler! Let the good times roll! Stroll the streets with your beverage – that’s legal here in New Orleans – and people watch. The party can go on till the wee hours, or longer, if the weather is warm. Which it usually is this time of year.

Live music, exotic drink specialties, great food, happy people celebrating in the streets and much more. Now how can New York – or anywhere else – top all that?

There are TONS of special party packages that provide everything you need to ring in the New Year creole style! We recommend you ask a New Orleans bed and breakfast innkeeper for some of their recommendations. They can give you insight on the right venues, music, transportation (that’s an important one!) and dining. We look forward to celebrating with you!
