Stomp in New Orleans

September 6th, 2011 by bbnola

The 10th annual Ponderosa Stomp takes place the weekend of September 15 – 17,  2011. Festivities will be held at the Howlin Wolf, at 907 South Peters Street, located in the Central Business District. If you like American roots music, book a room at your favorite New Orleans Bed and Breakfast soon.

Come to New Orleans for the 2011 Ponderosa Stomp.

Since its inception, the Ponderosa Stomp has paid tribute to the architects of Louisiana and Southern music: swamp pop, jazz, blues, rock & roll, soul, and more. The highlight in 2011 will be “The Memphis Sound”, music released on the Stax/Bolt and Excello record labels between the mid 1950s and the mid 1960s. Think Otis Redding, Booker T & the MGs, Eddie Floyd, Sam & Dave.

Stomp goers will have the opportunity to hear:

  • Eddie Floyd
  • William Bell
  • Dave Bartholomew
  • Allen Toussaint
  • Lazy Lester

and many more great artists.

The Ponderosa Stomp celebrates “the unsung heroes and heroines” of the music industry. These artists were extremely influential, but often overlooked by the general public. Take this opportunity to learn about the industry and listen to some of the finest musicians alive.

In addition to great music, the 2011 Ponderosa Stomp will include the 4th Annual Music History Conference, the Clandestine Celluloid Film Series, and an exhibit at the Cabildo on “Unsung Heroes: The Secret History of Louisiana Rock N’ Roll.

This promises to be a great weekend to visit New Orleans. Don’t miss it. Please visit New Orleans Bed and Breakfasts for a list of inns.

The Ponderosa Stomp

September 15th, 2010 by bbnola

You’ll want to book your New Orleans bed and breakfast for the Ponderosa Stomp as soon as possible. This American roots music festival has been shaking the House of Blues since 2001. Each year, the festival pays tribute to some of the finest “unsung heroes and heroines” of American soul, reggae, swamp, country, jazz, blues and rock-n-roll. The 2010 Ponderosa Stomp on September 24 and 25 will be no different.

The great Duane Eddy

Headlining the festival is “Guitar Man” Duane Eddy, the man  who helped the guitar become a lead instrument.  You may remember Rebel Rouser from 1958. During a career that has spanned more than half a century, Eddy has played alongside some of the finest musicians working.

Other musicians performing at the Ponderosa Stomp are Doug Ardoin and Bert Miller (two original Boogie Kings), Eve and the Exiles, Lil’ Buck Sinegal & the Top Cats with Stanley Durai (Buckwheat Zydeco), and Sugar Pie DeSanto.

One of the highlights of the weekend is sure to be the performance by Honeyboy Edwards. At 95, he is perhaps the last living link to the early 20th Century Mississippi Delta Blues.

There are many good reasons to travel to this city and lodge in a bed and breakfast New Orleans. One of them is the 2010 Ponderosa Stomp. Hope to see you there.
