Travel to New Orleans doesn’t have to break the bank. There are many ways to save on everything from lodging to activities. One thing is true – the more flexible you can be with your travel plans, the easier it is to save.

Admire the art and architecture of Lafayette Square

Once installed in a New Orleans Bed and Breakfast, cast about for free or inexpensive activities. New Orleans has long been a welcoming city. Music pours out of bars and parades pass by hourly (or so it sometimes seems). Visitors need do little more than walk about the city to experience its culture.

  • Wednesdays at the Square: from April to June 15, 2011, Lafayette Square is the place to be. Established New Orleans and Louisiana musicians offer free outdoor concerts, playing everything from jazz to funk and swamp pop. Bring a blanket for lounging or dance.
