5 Continents Bed & Breakfast
Not your normal B & B. The 5 Continents is a reflection of the owners world travels and life experiences. He has lived or visited five of the seven continents of the world, hence the name. Located just six blocks from the French Quarter on the historic Esplanade or to the Race Track at the Fairgrounds where the world famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is held each year, it is perfectly situated for a memorable visit to the "Big Easy".
The house is a two story Greek Revival Mansion with the original carriage house and a dependency. Built in the late 1880's by Jean Francis Del-Corral-Monent, it reflects a by-gone era in New Orleans history. Significant architectural features include the 14 foot cove ceilings that terminate in a delicate plaster shell and Fleur-de-lis motif, the original ceiling medallions and the original gasolier crystal chandeliers in both parlors. The eight fireplaces, all with the original mantles and ceramic tile hearths set in to hardwood floors are located throughout the house.
Guests are accommodated in our two room suites upstairs in the main house or in our cottage in the garden area. Each are named for a different continent and are decorated with art work from the continent they represent - Europe, Asia, Eurasia, and North America. They are furnished with an eclectic collection of antiques and reproduction pieces. Oriental rugs cover the polished hardwood floors in the main house.
Breakfast is a treat for the palate that is served in our formal dining room at the guests convience. It is a two course event beginning with freshly brewed Community Coffee or a selection of fine teas and a choice of juices. Fresh seasonal fruit or fruit and yogurt are the first course followed by the entree....Smoked Salmon Scrambles with hot buttery biscuits, Buckwheat and Pecan Waffles with Hickory Smoked Bacon, Louisiana Shrimp Benedict, Baked Anjou Pear French Toast or perhaps omelets to order!
We feature Dorothy Prentice Aromatherapy Spa soaps and shampoos, 400 count Egyptian Cotton Sheets, andTurkish Cotton Spa bath towels. Secure off street parking, complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access and mini-fridges stocked with complimentary sodas, juice and bottled water.
