New Orleans Gay Friendly

New Orleans is a welcoming and tolerant city, and it has long been a haven for the LGBT community in the south. The gay community of New Orleans is therefore well established, and LGBT travelers will find themselves welcome in all shops, restaurants, clubs and theatres. It's a place in the south where you can be yourself.
Faubourg Marigny is both the center of New Orleans' gay and lesbian communities and home to some of the best bars and clubs in the city. The best way to experience this hip neighborhood just below the French Quarter may be to stroll down the street, drink in hand, listening to the music coming out of each club.
Ever had a hamburger cooked under a hubcap? And why not? Rectify this state of affairs when in New Orleans at the Clover Grill, on Bourbon Street. Feelings Café offers up delicious Creole cuisine in a lovely, historic building. The ambiance is elegant and romantic. Guests of New Orleans bed and breakfasts with adventurous palates should try Meauxbar Bistro, where there is a great mix of Cajun, Asian and contemporary Louisiana fare.
There is no shortage of entertainment after dinner. Dance the night away in the French Quarter, hopping from the Bourbon Pub Parade dance club to Oz dance club, located just across the street. Stop in for a drink at Café Lafitte in Exile, said to be the oldest gay bar on the continent. Take in a cabaret show at Le Chat Noir, a piano lounge near Lafayette Square, in the Warehouse/Arts District.
The big event of the year for many LGBT travelers is Southern Decadence, which has taken place over Labor Day Weekend since the early 1970s. Participants dress as their favorite "decadent Southern" character for a very fun parade. Book your New Orleans bed and breakfast early for this popular event.
